Make the most of your trip to the Phi Phi islands with our 2-in-1 Sunset Plankton Tour, that visits Phi Phi Ley Island and includes Night Snorkeling.
This trip leaves at 3 pm and first visits the amazing island of Phi Phi Ley. The trips stops at some of the great snorkeling spots around the island at goes to either Maya Bay or to Pileh bay (depending on the weather conditions) . The Sunset Plankton Tour is guided by one of our snorkeling guides so they will train any newbees and take you to the best spots for snorkeling away from the main crowds.
Once we have got the most out of the snorkeling we watch the sunset before taking to the reef once more only this time to enjoy one of nature’s best kept secrets – bio-illuminescent plankton.
There is a surreal quality to being in the sea at night. Our underwater flashlights cut through the darkness, searching for creatures emerging for their nocturnal feast. Covering our lamps reveals the plankton glowing in the dark.
At the Adventure Club we strive to bring exciting programs to snorkelers that introduces new and fascinating discoveries. Night Snorkeling is no exception.
START TIME: This trip is offered as an afternoon trip only. This trip starts at 1500 PM. Each trip is 3-4 hours long.
MEETING POINT: All trips start at our main dive center on Phi Phi Island. Find us on Google Maps
MAYA BAY BEACH CLOSED from 01 JUNE – 30 SEPTEMBER
The closure of Maya Bay Beach means that visitors are not permitted to go onto the beach in Maya Bay. This is to help preserve the coral reefs and allow them an opportunity to recover.
Phi Phi Ley island is mostly a rocky terrain with high cliffs. Maya bay is the main beach although there are 3 other small and difficult to access beaches due to shallow reefs. Generally our trips to Phi Phi Ley do not include visiting the beaches and are more about snorkeling and sightseeing from the boats. So in that sense the closing of the beach in Maya Bay does not effect the type of tours that we usually offer. We have been informed that boats will be able to visit the Maya Bay without stopping at the beach. The other surrounding areas are still accessible.
For the Sunset Plankton Tour, registering the day before is still preferred but can be done in the morning the day of the trip but before midday.
Guest registration will include
*Going on to the beach at Maya Bay is not obligatory. If guests wish to go onto the beach at Maya Bay they shall need to pay an additional 400 baht to the national park.
We require at least 3 persons to operate any Sunset Plankton Tour. In such cases where guests are booking for less than 3 persons we can only confirm the status of the Sunset Plankton Tour at the registration.
In the event we do not have the minimum of 3 persons we shall offer:
* Although in some cases our policy does not allow to offer a refund, we shall do our best to accommodate the guest(s) and fit them into another program if there are spaces available.
Leaving Phi Phi Island in the afternoon? No problem, the morning Phi Phi Ley Tour is back in time for you to take the ferry back to the mainland with plenty of time to spare.
Arriving to Phi Phi Island on the morning ferry? You cannot do the morning Phi Phi ley Tour but you can join us for the afternoon Phi Phi Ley Tour that starts at 1400 PM.
Not staying overnight on Phi Phi Island? Sorry, the Phi Phi ley Tour is not for you. The only way to do any of our programs is if you are staying overnight on the island.

As the sun starts to set, the denizens of the deep make ready for the arrival of darkness.
Those animals too timid to exit during the day now leave their havens in search of food. Moray eels forage the reefs looking for some of their favorite prey; sleeping parrotfish. Now, the corals deprived of sunlight, extend their sticky polyps to capture the passing zoo plankton. As the reef scavengers start to move and feast the reef is no longer quiet. Mollusks, shellfish and crustaceans, pop, click, and grind as they open and close, hoovering up sediments as they go.
Night Snorkeling opens up a whole new dimension to diving with new discoveries to be made on every dive. Night snorkeling is about weird creatures coming out to feed. No wonder they stay hidden during the day. Much of the reason that we know so little about the life in the sea is because half of it is hidden during the daytime only venturing out at night when all is safe; for some. Some aren’t so lucky!
