If you are between the ages of 10 and 14 years old, then the PADI Junior Open Water Diver program is for you.
The course structure is essentially the same as the adult course. You will learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, about dive equipment and diving techniques and be certified to dive to 12 meters.
Learning to dive is a turning point in most people’s lives but an even more valuable experience when you are young.
Based on guests arriving in the afternoon to Phi Phi Island
*Students should wait at least 18 hours after their last dive before flying.
In order to do a Junior Open Water DiverProgram each candidate must complete the medical statement.
A doctor’s certificate is NOT required if the diver can answer ‘NO’ to all of the questions.
A doctors certificate is only required when the candidate can answer ‘YES’ to any item on the statement
Please go this link to download the Medical Statement. If you can answer ‘YES’ to any item please take a copy of this statement and present it to the doctor for him to sign.
There are national park fees for diving or snorkeling at the Phi Phi Islands.
All divers pay the national park rangers stationed at the Phi Phi Island pier before boarding the dive boat. The following fees will apply:
1st Day diving: 400 baht
2nd Day diving: 200 baht
3rd day diving: 200 baht
Non Diver (snorkeler) on dive boat: 400 baht
4th Day diving: 400 baht

If guests do not go onto the beach at these locations they are not required to pay a national park fee.
This program is for absolute beginners and is conducted over three to four days.
Courses start any day.
The course is split into 3 parts:
Classroom theory and video sessions
Confined water training
Open water dives
Course Schedule
Day 1
1730-2100: Classroom theory
Day 2
0900-1200: Complete Classroom theory
1400 -1800: Confined Water training
Day 3
0700-1300: Open Water Dives 1 + 2
Day 4
0700-1300: Open Water Dives 3 + 4
Please note that although the general start time is quite flexible we recommend this time because:
1. It will reduce the workload and spread the theory over two periods
2. The first part of theory is conducted early evening in the classroom so you are not sitting in the classroom when you could be enjoying the sunshine outside.
3. It means you can start as early as the day you arrive to Phi Phi Island even if you are arriving with the afternoon ferry.
Theory classes are conducted in our air-conditioned classrooms
Confined water training is conducted at the beach
Open water dives are conducted at the Bida islands and Phi Phi Ley Island
Includes: Open Water Manual, Full diving equipment, Tea, coffee and water, Lunch and fruit, PADI instructor, PADI certificate, Insurance
Pick up service is not included. Guests need to make their own way to our dive center for the trip meeting point.
(Part 1): Theory and video sessions
The theory and video sessions take place in our custom-built air conditioned classrooms. There are 5 modules of theory and subsequently 5 videos for each module. Each video can take between 45 -60 minutes to watch. Many of our students vote to watch the first of the videos in the evening of the first day from 17:30h to 21:00h and in this way they can free up the workload for the following day. Each module is proceeded by a discussion with our PADI Instructor and the study sessions are checked with the use of pop quizzes, or multiple choice quizzes to help monitor the students progress and understanding of the material.
The following day we shall start around 09:00h and complete the theory sessions where we left off the previous evening.
Did you know that you can complete the theory in advance of arriving by using PADI’s eLearning classes available at PADI’s website? Please see here for more information
Confined Water Training means learning to dive in water which is shallow enough to stand up. Our confined water training takes place on the beach in a natural environment. At this point the students will start to develop the skills required to learn to dive. Each skill is carefully explained by the diving instructor and then demonstrated by the instructor, so the student may feel confident that they can perform the skill themselves. Diving skills are developed starting with the easier skills and progress as the student’s confidence and ability progresses. Just like the theory and video sessions, there are 5 confined water training modules.
To complete the PADI Junior Open Water the student must participate in the four open water dives. Open water dives 1 and 2 are conducted on the same day to a maximum depth of 12 meters. Our dive boat ‘Reef Ranger’ travels out to the Bida Islands or Phi Phi Ley island to some of the best dive sites the islands have to offer. Each dive is approximately an hour long and there is a light lunch and refreshments provided between the dives. Open water dives 3 and 4 conclude the course on the last day with a similar program outline as for open water dives 1 and 2.
Upon completion the student is presented with a temporary PADI Junior Open Water Diver card that enables the newly certified diver to participate in any fun dives while waiting for their main dive certificate card to arrive from PADI headquarters.
